Davison Muchindu attends grade 7 in St. Mary’s School in Monze, Sambia - at least when his grandmother, who raises him, manages to procure this term’s school fees. This is not easy for her as sole provider for several grandchildren. And we are talking about just EUR 13 per year!
During a visit to the Southern Province of Zambia you can meet many young people like Davison who struggle with completing there education:
And each of us could give each of them the chance for a better future - without too much of an effort.
This is what moved us as a group of german university students on our journey through Zambia. Participating in a cultural exchange program we visited the Southern Province in 2013. Together with our friends from Zambia we therefore started this project.
We want to financially enable pupils in Zambia, who cannot afford otherwise, to visit school. The observation being that with a level of income in a country like germany even a seemingly small contribution can have a big effect in Zambia. The costs for one pupil for one year (school fees, notebooks, perhaps uniform) have been estimated as EUR 20 (grades 1-7) when we started. Today, this amount has significantly increased due to our focus on higher classes (you will find out about the reasons in the other sections). Still, the observation about the deep slope between income levels holds.
The support should neither mark the receiver as a sort of victim nor encourage a dependancy of any kind nor being a short-lived contribution leaving after only one year.
How this works in detail is explained in the other posts on this site. We should be very happy to gain your support!
